The country of Namibia is located along the south-western coast of Southern Africa, and bordered in the south by South Africa, on the north by Angola and on the east by Botswana, and linked with the Caprivi Strip to Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Namibia has several areas of interest to visitors. Ranging from desert areas of Sossusvlei in the Namib-Naukluft Park and wildlife rich Etosha National Park, to the sub-tropical Namibian Okavango Delta Panhandle and Caprivi Region, a water-rich river swampland.

This close location to various famous wildlife regions and places, (Okavango Delta, Moremi, Chobe and Victoria Falls), make Namibia one of the best starting points for any wildlife safari trip.

Preferred Safari Destination in Southern Africa

The whole Southern Africa delivers spectacular wildlife experiences, and each country has its own unique attractions and wildlife diversity to offer.

Namibia is the Ultimate African Wildlife Safari Destination

This huge, sparsely populated country has a diversity not easily equalled in Southern Africa.

Due to the Namib Desert, and its more famous attractions, quite often called a desert country but in fact far from it. The south (bordering on South Africa and Botswana) is semi-arid and home to the second largest canyon in the world, the Fish River Canyon.

Yet, when travelling through the south, you will find wide open golden grass savannahs, speckled with clusters of Acacia trees and bush. The Namib Desert forms a narrow strip stretching along the coast (about 150 km on its widest) from South Africa, all the way into Angola.

Even the desert is not all dunes, as some people belief, but consists of mountains, canyons (Fish River, Kuiseb, Gaub and Swakop Canyons), flat stone areas, the tan coloured Barkan dunes, and then the most famous of them all: The highest dunes in the world at Sossusvlei. These majestic reddish fossil dunes, has become one of Namibia’s most popular attractions.

The central Namibian highland or Khomas-Hochland, is a heavily bushed mountainous region, that give way to Botswana in the east and even more endless thick Acacia bush.

The north of Namibia has thick ever green vegetation, with dense tree forests. The far north ends with the Okavango and Zambezi river regions. These green sub-tropical areas are also home to 60% of Namibia’s 2.2 million people, who still live in the tribal areas.

Most of Namibia’s land is under conservancy, National Park or Game Reserve. It does not matter where you travel in Namibia, you will encounter some natural wildlife.

Most famous of all the Namibian National Parks is the Etosha. Considered by most as one of the finest wildlife sanctuaries in the world, with a rich wildlife diversity not seen any-ware else.

Below are some of the more well-known Namibian Parks and Reserves. Each has its own unique ecology and high lights, that make Namibia the ultimate safari destination.
